Logo Voting

Made this sticky so maybe we’ll get more responses, Extra Thanks to those who have given feedback!

Hey all, over the past year we have been looking into cleaning up the group logo to more correctly reflect the smith’s arm.

Here are images of the original and two options for you to vote on.  Please leave comments if you have any.  You can also add any alternatives you think of.

Southern Tier Monthly Meeting

This will be a demonstration and hands on . Bring your favorite hammer

and tongs, safety glasses, and ear plugs. Some tools will be available to

those that do not have them. If you have items to sell there will be a tent

for display hosted by the better halves of some of our members. Also

food will be available for sale.

If you plan to attend and demonstrate something please advise

Father’s Day Hammer In Cancelled

We got word that the Genesee Country Village Museum, where we have done a father’s day hammer in the past few years, will not be doing any outside events this year.  We are looking into some possibilities for alternatives but right now we don’t have anything for father’s day.  Thanks to those who would have participated.  Maybe they’ll be able to have us again in future years.

Spring All-Hands

Well I hope everyone is excited about the Meet this weekend.  We’ll be starting off on Friday with a social fish fry and dive right in on Saturday with Nigel Tudor’s demonstration.

Remember to bring your chair and to dress appropriately, it’s a large building and it hasn’t shaken off winter yet!  Let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I look forward to seeing you there!

January Southern Tier Meeting

Sorry about the tardiness of the post but Brian and I went to the Southern Tier Meeting on the 16th of January where we began making the John Little style bells.  Everyone had the opportunity to make a bell and while we had some difficulty with keeping some of the detail they all expanded quite nicely.

I would like to extend my thanks to everyone for their welcoming and friendly attitudes!  We had a wonderful time and it was great to see and meet so many members.  So without further ado here are several photos we took while we were expanding the bells:

Members! Looking for a retail outlet for your work?

NYSDB Members – are you looking for a retail outlet for all your hard work?  Well here is an opportunity in Cazenovia, NY.  We received an inquiry from an artists’ cooperative, www.cazenoviaartisans.com, for a possible blacksmith,

“We are always on the look out for new members, and we would be especially happy to have a blacksmith, as that would fill what has always been for us an empty niche.”

If you are in the area and have any interest in this please check them out at www.cazenoviaartisans.com/about.htm.  For direct contact please email Celeste Friend, celestefriend@gmail.com.

2011 Officer Call to Arms!

Hey all!  This spring will be time for officer elections again.  At the Spring All-Hands meeting we will get back on track by electing the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  If any active member is interested in any of the available positions please send your information to Keith Price by January 21, 2011.

To read more about what each position does please read the current by-laws, download here: [filebase:file:file=121:tpl=simple].

Call to arms!

Hi All!

It’s that time again, the time to volunteer your services to the group.

After years of service Harry Heuer will be stepping down from the treasurer’s position.  We want to offer many thanks to Harry for his service.  We would also like to fill the vice president’s position to allow Mike to focus on the newsletter.

If you are interested in helping out or just have questions please let me, Candace Martens, or Keith Price know.
