The Southern Tier Group will be meeting this Sunday the 4th of March at Henry Offerman’s again. We will be finishing up the sign by installing the hammer, tongs and any other loose pieces. Also the completed sign will be wire brushed and finished with Watco oil stain and clear coat.
Niagara Forge February Meeting with Keith Price demo/workshop
Niagara Regions February meeting at Gene Beamers Shop set a record in attendance as 32 folks showed up to make Roses for their Valentines! We had a great meeting which was enhanced with a great lunch of pulled pork sandwiches from Honcho Gregory and Robert Giordano.

The coal forges at the Rochester Arc and Flame Center, aka the new home of the Genesee Forge, are now operational! Come see this weekend at our monthly meeting.

The Southern Tier is making great strides on their blacksmithing sign that will be auctioned off at the May All-Hands meeting. Don’t forget we will also be auctioning off the Nigel Tudor Grill sample from his demo last year.

Genesee Forge Has Great First Meeting at New Shop
We had a great turnout at our first meeting at our new host shop at the Rochester Arc and Flame Center! We had fifteen members including two brand new members and two long lost members who have returned to the group. (Gene, I’ll get you the info ASAP!)
John Rausch demonstrated a decorative pineapple twist with finial and everyone got to try their hand at making one. Check out the pics below. Next month we will work on various scrolls and joinery techniques including collaring. There was no Iron in the Hat this month due to the massive amount of work that went into setting up the new shop, but plan on making and bringing a forged item next in February!

Genesee Region Meeting this Saturday
Reminder, our first full meeting at our new home at the Rochester Arc and Flame Center will be held on Saturday 1/21/12. Coffee and Donuts at 8AM. Demo starts at 9. John Rausch will walk us through making a pineapple twist. Stock will be available for you to try. Time willing, we will also make some tooling for the shop.

1:00-3:00 Continue Sign Project
What to bring: Bring your design ideas for the sign. We will make a full size sketch of the sign and then start fabrication of the frame and elements. The sign will be raffled off during the spring “All Hands” meeting.

Rochester Arc And Flame Center is now officially Open!
With the official ribbon cutting last night and the grand opening today, Rochester and all of western New York now has a premier blacksmithing school. One of only a handful in the country, this is a dream made real by the incredibly hard work of dozens of people. The New York State Designer Blacksmiths Association is proud to be a part of this very special facility. We also have the pleasure of sharing the facility with incredible glass working and welding programs. If you get things hot, this is the place for you.
The Genesee Forge will have our first monthly meeting there on January 21st, 2012!
